Welcome to the Institute of Aikido

Aikido is a non competitive Japanese martial art developed in the early 20th century by a Japanese martial arts expert: Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to as O Sensei or 'Great Teacher') It is based on a series of throws and immobilization techniques, using the attackers strength, momentum and aggression against them. As Aikido relies on skill and not strength, it can be practiced by people of all ages and physical abilities

Aikido was introduced to the UK in the 1950’s by Abbe Sensei (a student of Morihei Ueshiba) at the Hut Dojo

The Hut has continued to teach Aikido ever since and is the Headquarters of the Institute of Aikido run by Sensei Haydn Foster 7th Dan I.A. himself a student of Abbe Sensei.

The institute is a founding member of the British Aikido Board (BAB)
