we tend to stick to wooden tanto until people reach 1st kyu and have the skill level and body movement to stay safe. IMHO mst of the aiki knife taking techniques are fairly impractical, and really are best practced to improve zanshin, body movement and composure.

I looked up the Insitute on Wikipedia today and noted that the entry states we have links to Grenada. Never heard of anyone in Grenada from the Institute. Does anyone know something I don't?

My 2 girls started Aikido just before Easter, my eldest of the two is away at school during the week as she needs a different teaching environment to her sister. She learns visually and i have found out in the past that what helps her retain what she learns (as she does shotokan) is DVD'S and books. So can anyone recommend any suitable DVD'S/books which are highly visual and does it step by step.
Thanks |

There's a saying in Kendo: Train hard fight easy.
The same could be applied to any martial art. The more you train and the harder that training is then the more likely it is going to be of some use to you when you need it. More sepcifically to the post if you train to do the techniques the wrong way then when it comes to using them you're not likely to do them right either. You get out of training what you put in. |

I would like to get everyones view on this if I may
Those people who have tried to Defend them selfs with Aikido and failed and got hurt. Do you think it is possible that it is because they have a fundamental flaw with their Aikido Basics In other words they just go though the motions of training but not really Do the technique because they might not want to hurt there best mate ??,So they have not done a true representation of the technique so in the real world their Aikido falls apart. Noble but foolish you can still do the technique properly and not hurt anyone this is how we learn control. So is it possible that people have taken O sensie's teachings and have taken them to literally In the way of peace, love, and harmony ?? so some people so to the side of the martial way and others go to the Aiki way but Surely the best way to train is to blend the Martial way with Aiki?? . Please give me your thoughts |

Just wondering what everyones thoughts were on the use of live (sharp) weapons were in practice. Should they be used? Should they be used even though we're not insured to do so? What do we gain by using them?
